How the paper you choose changes the way your picture looks

Three ways to print fine art

The paper decides how a picture feels on the wall. A smooth cotton sheet keeps every fine detail crisp, an etching paper adds a soft texture you can see and feel, and a bright archival matte paper keeps things clean and simple. All three are matte papers, so none of them will show glare under bright light.

Smooth and soft, with no visible texture

Museum Cotton Rag

Our finest smooth paper: a heavy, 100% cotton sheet with a natural white and a soft matte surface. It is the paper we reach for when a picture deserves to be shown at its best.

Museum Etching

Our finest textured paper: a heavy, velvety matte sheet with a warm white and a fine etching texture. It gives a reproduction the feel of an original.

Archival Matte

A smooth, bright white matte paper with no glare at all. Clean and even, it lets flat color and graphic work speak for themselves.

Bright white | 200 g/m² | smooth matte

Papers chosen for fine art

Our two museum papers are heavy, matte sheets that galleries use for editions: one of pure cotton, one with an etching texture.

Archival Matte is the lighter, brighter choice, and the most affordable way into fine art.

Pigment inks for deep, lasting color

A giclée print is made with pigment inks, laid down in fine drops. The result has smooth tonal steps, deep blacks and color that stays true when the print is framed and kept out of direct sun.

A white border, if you want one

A white margin around the picture gives it room to breathe, and leaves space for a signature or a title. Add one in the configurator and see it on the preview.

We check your photo before you order

Every size comes with a quality reading for your photo, so you know how large it will print well.

If your file is small, the reading shows which sizes will still look sharp.

From phone pictures to camera files

Most phone photos make a good print at small and medium sizes. Camera files and scans can go larger. The configurator shows you where your photo stands.

Questions and answers

What makes a fine art print different from a photo print?

A fine art print, or giclée, is a print made with pigment inks on a fine art paper. It has smooth tones, deep blacks and a matte surface without glare, and it is made to last when framed and kept out of direct sun.

How do I order a fine art print?

Upload your photo, choose a paper and a size, and check the preview. The configurator shows the price as you go. Add it to your cart and check out.

Which options can I choose?

You choose the paper (Museum Cotton Rag, Museum Etching or Archival Matte), the size, standard or custom, and whether the print has a white border. You can also crop your photo to the shape you want.

How long does it take?

Fine art prints take about 8 working days to make and ship.

What sizes can I order?

Standard sizes start at 6 x 4 in, and you can set a custom size up to 36 in on the long side. Prices start at $19.00 on Archival Matte.

Can I get advice before ordering?

Yes. Call us or send us a note, or visit one of our stores, and we will help you choose a paper and a size.

Can I print a photo from my phone?

Yes. Most phone photos print well at small and medium sizes. The configurator gives your photo a quality reading for every size, so you know before you order.

Why order fine art prints from us?

We are a frame shop as well as a print shop, so your print is made with framing in mind, and our stores can frame it for you.
